The CEO of a children’s mental health charity has been announced as the Bedford and Kempston Labour Party’s mayoral candidate.
Saqhib Ali’s selection was confirmed by the party today (Monday), ahead of the mayoral elections in 2023.
Mr Ali, who has lived in Bedford Borough since 1978, said he was honoured to have been chosen.
“Across the Borough there is a clear choice, you can vote for local Labour candidates who are on your side working to improve the services you and your family need and use. Or you can vote for Conservative or Liberal Democrat candidates which would tell Liz Truss’ Government you are happy with things exactly how they are,” he said.
“I believe we can send a message that Bedford Borough and our country can be so much better with competent leadership.”
Mr Ali said his priorities would be the renewal of town centres, protection of local health services and collaboration with Bedfordshire Police to make streets safer. He also highlighted tackling the climate emergency.
“This is not going to be easy. We face difficult economic challenges caused by Conservative and Liberal Democrat Governments pushing cuts onto Councils for years.
“But if you vote for serious competent leadership by voting for Labour wherever you live in Bedford Borough, we can face these challenges together and renew Bedford Borough.”
