One of the Bedford Independent’s own, sports reporter Ruben Garroway, is celebrating today after receiving an impressive set of A-level results and securing his place at the University of Leeds to study Sports Journalism.
Ruben, who has been working with the Bedford Independent as an intern since February 2024, achieved three A grades in English Language, History, and Media Studies while studying at The Bedford Sixth Form.
“Working with the BI has helped me to hone my journalistic skills and given me a platform as a young writer to have my work published, which I feel very privileged to have had,” said Ruben.
“The Bedford Sixth Form provided me with all the support I needed to secure my required grades. My history teacher, Penny Cunningham, was particularly great.”
Ruben has become a regular contributor to the Bedford Independent’s sports section, with a particular focus on Bedford Town FC, earning praise from readers and colleagues alike.

The University of Leeds is widely recognised for its journalism and media programmes, and Ruben’s next chapter marks a significant step toward a career in the industry.
