Bedford’s motor racing sensation, Alex Walker has enjoyed a wonderful season in the National Formula Ford Championship, ending 2021 as statistically the best driver and with eight race wins to boot.
Now, the British Racing Drivers Club have recognised his ability and potential by naming him one of their ‘rising stars’, an accolade once given to seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton.
Following Alex’s huge success in single seater racing in 2021, the former Rushmoor School student’s soaring career in motorsport is on track to rocket further in 2022, in Sportscars at home or in Europe.
Alex has also been selected by Aston Martin, BMW, McLaren and Porsche for evaluation in their young driver programmes, driving at the Grand Prix tracks at both Silverstone and Barcelona.
The road to the Le Mans 24-hour race
Alex’s next mission is to compete in the world-famous Le Mans 24-hour race and he is calling on local Bedford businesses to help sponsor his efforts.
Walker says: “We are looking for someone to help us with buying the car for the six month racing season, with their investment being returned to them in the autumn.
“By sponsoring me, they would be invited to watch me racing at the British GT events across the UK, come along to Silverstone as my guest to enjoy the BRDC Clubhouse for a leading event and be driven around the Grand Prix track in something fast!
“Ultimately, the sponsors would have the chance to be an instrumental part of our team and join me on my racing journey towards the Le Mans 24 Hour Race.”
The sponsorship opportunity presents a rare chance to become immersed in the highly lucrative world of motor racing, while joining Bedford’s hottest racing talent on his motorsport journey.
Alex has been a mainstay throughout his short racing career so far, having been top ten in the rankings at British, European and World Karting events before taking the step up to car racing in the F4 Championship.
At just 15 years of age, he gained a Rookie Cup podium before beginning his journey in the National Formula Ford Championship, earning back-to-back Champion of Donington titles.
2022 promises to be an exciting year for Walker and with many options on the table for one of the nation’s brightest racing stars, the sky is the limit for the 18-year old.
