A community band that is marking its 25th anniversary this year is reflecting on a triumphant year ahead of a celebration concert on Saturday (4 October).
Back in June, Bedford Town Concert Brass, a community band that is part of the Bedford Town Band organisation, participated in the annual Whit Friday Brass Band Contest in Saddleworth in Yorkshire.
The contest is a cherished tradition in the villages in the north west and has been celebrated since the 19th century.
Bedford Town Concert Brass competed in eight of the eleven Saddleworth villages participating in this tradition, and they made a notable impact in Delph (famously featured in the 1996 film Brassed Off ), where they ranked 18th out of a total of 75 bands showcasing their talents there.
Bedford Town Concert Brass was awarded the title of Best Fourth Section Band in Delph, an impressive achievement that underscores their dedication and skill, and finished 44th overall out of 121 bands that participated in the whole event.
“The Whit Friday Brass Band Contest is a vibrant celebration of brass band music, where bands march through the streets and compete in as many of the participating villages as they can, fostering a spirit of friendly competition and community engagement,” said a spokesperson for the band.
“Bedford Town Concert Brass’ achievements at this year’s event not only highlight their commitment to musical excellence but also bring pride to the Bedford community, reinforcing the importance of music and brass band traditions in our cultural heritage.”
