A community interest company (CIC) in Bedford has been awarded a Sport England grant to deliver a movement project that is proven to help people reconnect with themselves, manage stress, and regulate their nervous systems.
Bright Emotions CIC is launching Movement is Medicine (MIM) in Bedford on 20 September, thanks to the support of the charity.

Rooted in neuroscience and backed by real-life impact, MIM is a non-medical prescription for rhythm, rest, resilience, and regulation.
“We are beyond excited to announce that Bright Emotions has been awarded this grant to deliver the Movement is Medicine project right here in Bedford,” said Sophie Whelen, founder of Bright Emotions CIC.
“At the launch party we’re planning something Bedford has never seen before; a bold, immersive music and movement showcase to mark the official launch of the project.
“Expect it to be big, vibrant, and unforgettable.”

The event will feature immersive music, from House and Garage to Afrobeats and Drum & Bass – using rhythm and BPM to guide the body into balance.
Sophie is calling out to local organisations that champion wellbeing through music, movement, creativity, nature or other non-clinical approaches to be part of the project.
“We’d also love to hear from dancers, DJs, percussionists, musicians and creatives who would like to take part. If this speaks to you, get in touch and let’s co-create something incredible.”
Bright Emotions CIC is a community-rooted organisation dedicated to supporting children and families with emotional wellbeing through creative and therapeutic interventions.
“Our work helps children understand, express, and manage their feelings in safe ways,” explains Sophie.
“From creative workshops to family support, we offer tools that build resilience, confidence, and connection. In a time when children’s mental health challenges are rising, our work offers early, proactive support that makes a lasting difference.”
On Friday, 29 August, Bright Emotions is hosting a Summer Family Day, which, Sophie says, will be “a joyful celebration of creatiing, connection and wellbeing for the whole community.”
You can follow Bright Emotions on all social media platforms to stay in the loop with their latest events, programmes, and ways to get involved.
“There’s so much more to come,” said Sophie. “You won’t want to miss it.”
