A pair of brothers who play for Riseley Cricket Club enjoyed a stellar weekend with bat in hand, as individual and team records fell in a local invitational cricket league.
Dan Bennett, 21, and brother Sam, 18 scored an opening wicket partnership of 329 in Division Two of the Bedfordshire Invitational Saturday League with Daniel scoring an unbeaten double century and Sam finishing on 105 not out.
Daniel’s individual score of 201 not out beats the previous club record of 160 and is the club’s first ever double centurion, while the partnership of 329 is also a club record for any wicket, beating the only other triple partnership made at the club.
Riseley, in sixth place before the start of the game, beat second placed Lidlington by 261 runs as the home side were bowled out for 68 – also a club record margin of victory for Riseley.
Still going strong
While the batters steal the headlines for their triple century stand, another name from Saturday’s scorecard jumps out.
Winston Jermy, who took 3-11 in the same game, has been playing in Bedfordshire cricket circles for decades and is still enjoying turning out for Riseley every Saturday at the age of 72.
Riseley continue their league season with a home fixture against Thurleigh this Saturday in the Bedfordshire Invitational League.
