Bedford Hospital welcomed its first baby of the New Year in the early hours of New Year’s Day, as ten “New Year’s Day babies” were born across Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust.
Baby Alessa was the first arrival at Bedford Hospital, born at 6.19am and weighing 2,810g (6.2lbs).
Mum Sareya said: “Having a baby on New Year’s Day is something we will never forget. The whole team looked after us with such professionalism and kindness.
“We want to thank the staff for all that they did during such an exciting moment for our family. They were incredibly caring and gentle throughout and we will forever be grateful.”
Across the Trust, ten babies were born on New Year’s Day, two at Bedford Hospital and eight at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.
Baby Tabiah was the first New Year’s Day baby at the Luton and Dunstable, arriving at 1.19am and weighing 2,970g (6.5lbs).
Director of Midwifery at Bedfordshire Hospitals, Emma Hardwick, said: “A huge congratulations to all the parents on their new arrivals; what a fantastic way to begin the New Year. A special thank you to all our incredible staff who have been working over the festive period.”
