One of the county’s growing cricket clubs has celebrated their end of season awards after another successful campaign in the Bedfordshire County Cricket League.
Queen’s Park Westfield Cricket Club, who boast four senior teams in the Bedfordshire County Cricket League handed out their season-ending trophies on Saturday (4 October) with special guest, former ECB deputy chairman and Bedfordshire’s own, Martin Darlow.
Queen’s Park Westfield now has the most cricket played in a single park across Bedfordshire, with 12 teams calling Allen Park their home ground across Saturday, Sunday and midweek cricket leagues.
They also work closely with their sister club, Queens Park Youth Cricket Club to help foster a pipeline of young players into the senior setup, a lot of which were part of the successful 4th XI this season.
Martin Darlow, the former ECB deputy chairman and a well known name across Bedfordshire cricket, was also present; a man who has been instrumental in helping renovate the facilities and the clubhouse in Queen’s Park.
Martin was presented with a special recognition award to thank him for his contributions to improving cricket facilities at Allen Park – ten years after the renovations at the facility – and continuous efforts to improve the wider game in the county.
Westfield celebrated a solid season, with two teams achieving promotion in the Bedfordshire County Cricket League, played on Sundays.
The 2nd XI won Division Two, winning 11 of their 16 league games to beat Stony Stratford to the title, winning promotion to Division One, while the aforementioned 4th XI won promotion from Division Six.
The 1st XI will once again compete in the Premier Division in 2026 after winning seven league games to comfortably sustain their top tier status, and will play in local derbies against Biddenham, and newly promoted Bedford CC.
The 3rd XI unfortunately suffered relegation from Division Three after a final day defeat against fellow strugglers, Waresley.
Award winners
Some of the notable award winners were Aqib Iqbal, who won three prizes including the ‘Player of the Year’ award, alongside ‘Bowler of the Year’.
Iqbal picked up 38 wickets across the season, including a stunning spell of 7-9 against Preston in May that saw him on the national honours board.
Ameer Ali won the ‘Batsman of the Year’ for the first team, with the most runs and some crucial innings, while Mohammed Ali won ‘Young Player of the Year’, scoring over 250 runs and collecting 26 wickets for the second team as part of their title winning effort.
