North Bedfordshire MP Richard Fuller has urged residents to report any incidents or information relating to screws deliberately scattered across roads in Clapham and Oakley.
It follows a series of reports earlier this year, first covered by the Bedford Independent in July, which prompted police to increase patrols in the area to catch those responsible.
Mr Fuller (Conservative) said he had spoken with Clapham Parish Council Chair, Phillipa Simms, who is leading community efforts alongside Bedfordshire Police.
“I have been contacted by residents about incidents of screws being wantonly thrown across Clapham and Oakley roads,” he said in an email to constituents seen by the Bedford Independent.
“I have spoken with Phillipa Simms, who is leading efforts with Bedfordshire Police to catch those responsible. I am going to support her 100% and have also contacted Bedfordshire Police and Bedford Borough Council.
“To help with this, I would be grateful if anyone with any information or experience of damage could file a crime incident and also let me know your experience by emailing my office.”
Residents can report information or damage through the Bedfordshire Police online reporting system at beds.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime.
Four months
The issue was first raised almost four months ago, in July, when multiple Clapham residents reported finding handfuls of screws scattered across local roads, causing punctures and posing a potential danger to motorists and cyclists.
Bedfordshire Police increased patrols and began investigating after several incidents were reported in and around High Street, Twinwood Road and the Oakley junctions.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police told the Bedford Independent at the time, “We have been made aware of several reports relating to numerous screws being found on the roads in and around Clapham, which has caused damage to several vehicles.
“As part of our enquiries into this, we have increased patrols in the area and have liaised with the Highways Agency to arrange for the roads to be cleaned up.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact us online at beds.police.uk or via 101 quoting reference 40/38523/25.”
Residents are being encouraged to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and submit information to police to help identify those responsible.
