Bedford Borough Council have announced the comeback of the Bedford Junior Aquathlon this October with young athletes aged eight and upwards encouraged to take part in the latest swimming and running extravaganza.

The Aquathlon is split into age groups, from eight up to sixteen years old and each event is tailored to each individual age group.

Get active

The youngest age group are due to complete in a fun and friendly competition with a 66 metre swim followed by a 600 metre run around Bedford Park.

Distances rise as the age groups go up; 15 and 16-year old competitors face a 400m swim followed by a 2.8km run, with start times staggered across all ages in order to ensure the safety of all those competing.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said: “The Junior Aquathlon is a fantastic event that encourages children to get active, challenge themselves and have a great time!

“We saw some amazing performances at the last event in March, and we can’t wait to see even more young athletes take part in October.”

Every participant receives a medal, with trophies awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.

Registration for the event closes on Tuesday 1st October and you can sign up here. No entries will be accepted on the day.
