Bedford Borough Council has issued a warning that there could be some overnight noise and disruption with work on the long-awaited Wixams Station beginning later this month.
Network Rail, in partnership with Bedford Borough Council, has announced the start of preparatory work for the new Wixams station. These initial stages will involve establishing a site compound and undertaking enabling work.
But, some work on the railway will need to be carried out at night when trains are not running for safety. So, there may be noise may be caused by the movement and operation of heavy machinery and other tasks.
These works will occur overnight on the following dates in 2024:
- September 28-30
- October 26-31
- November 1-2
- November 4-11
- December 7-9
The Council says Network Rail and their contractors will take all possible measures to keep this noise to a minimum at night and during the day.
This will be done by implementing a traffic management plan to streamline construction traffic flow as well as scheduling deliveries and working outside peak morning and evening hours whenever possible.
They’ll also be keeping communications open with the local community by providing regular updates throughout the project.

A dedicated site compound will also be set up off Meadow Road, Wixams, from the week commencing 27 August 2024.
This compound will house temporary offices, welfare facilities for staff, parking, and storage areas. The enabling work will prepare the ground for future construction activities.
